What is the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe?
The Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is Europe's most prestigious flat race, run each October over 2,400 metres at ParisLongchamp, the racecourse in the Bois de Boulogne on the western edge of Paris. It is organised by France Galop and sponsored by Qatar, and it caps a weekend of top-class racing that draws owners, trainers and racegoers from around the world.
The 2026 Arc was run on Sunday 4 October, and Daryz retained his title, winning the race for the second year in a row and joining the small group of two-time winners that includes Treve, in 2013 and 2014, and Enable, in 2017 and 2018. The same weekend featured other Group 1 races, including the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère, the Qatar Prix de la Forêt and the Qatar Arabian World Cup for Arabian horses.
The race was first run on 3 October 1920, won by the three-year-old Comrade, and it has been sponsored by Qatar since 2008. With total prize money of €5 million, it is often called Europe's richest flat race, and the Racing Post's guide credits Frankie Dettori with the jockey record of six wins.
What is new for 2027?
France Galop had not published the 2027 date when this guide was checked. The Arc is traditionally run on the first weekend of October, but that is a pattern, not an announcement, so wait for the official date before booking.
The race is open to horses aged three and older, including fillies and mares, and it attracts the best middle-distance horses in Europe and beyond, so it often brings together that year's Derby winners and the leading older horses. Entries are confirmed in stages through the year, starting in the spring. In 2026, France Galop received 73 entries, against 78 in 2025.

How is it organised?
The Arc is the centrepiece of a two-day meeting. Saturday is a full card of racing, and Sunday builds through a series of Group races to the Arc itself in the late afternoon. On Sunday, the Parade of Nations, with flags and riders, opens the day's pageantry.
Spectators choose between general areas and enclosures, plus a range of hospitality. In 2026, France Galop's ticket page offered:
- Arc Village, on Sunday only, from €15.
- General Entry, from €20.
- Winning Post Gold Enclosure, from €60, and a two-day numbered seat in the Winning Post Gold Stand, from €300.
- Hospitality, from a bistro and the Brasserie ParisLongchamp to Prestige packages, the Panorama restaurant and private suites, from about €110 to €827.
When is it, and what are the hours?
In 2026, France Galop gave these times, as a guide:
| Day | Gates | Racing |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday | 12:00 to 20:30 | First race 13:23, then about every 30 minutes |
| Sunday | 11:00 to 21:00 | Parade of Nations 12:50, first race 13:40, the Arc at 16:05 |
Expect a similar pattern in 2027, but check the official timings once the date is confirmed.
Where is it held?
At ParisLongchamp, 2 route des Tribunes, 75016 Paris, in the Bois de Boulogne. The racecourse reopened in 2018 with a new grandstand designed by the architect Dominique Perrault, replacing the old stands. It sits on the edge of the city, close to the Seine and the town of Suresnes.
How do tickets work?
Tickets are sold on France Galop's ticketing site. 2027 prices had not been published; the 2026 prices above are a guide. Hospitality bookings for the Brasserie and Panorama are made by phone on +33 1 49 10 20 65 or by email to commercial@france-galop.com.
How do I get there and get around?
France Galop runs free shuttle buses to the racecourse from Porte Maillot, on Métro line 1 (exit 3), and Porte d'Auteuil, on Métro line 10 (exit 1). In 2026 they ran from 11:30 on Saturday and 10:30 on Sunday, with the last returns at 21:30 and 22:00. Bus 244 (stop Les Moulins-Camping), bus 241 (stop Hippodrome de Longchamp) and tram T2 (stop Suresnes Longchamp) also serve the course.

Where can I park, and where should I stay?
On-site parking is available, subject to space, from €5 in 2026, and France Galop recommends booking it in advance. Given the crowds, the free shuttles and public transport are usually easier.
Any Paris base works, but the west of the city, around the 16th arrondissement, Neuilly and Boulogne-Billancourt, is closest to the racecourse and the shuttle stops at Porte Maillot and Porte d'Auteuil. October is busy in Paris, so book early.
What can I bring, and what should I wear?
France Galop says a dress code is in force at the Brasserie ParisLongchamp and the Panorama restaurant; there is no published general dress code for the public areas. Pushchairs are welcome, but pets are not allowed. Early October in Paris can be cool and showery, so bring a layer.
Children, service animals and accessibility
Pushchairs are welcome at the Arc, which makes it a popular family day out, but France Galop had not published 2027 rules on children's tickets. Pets are not allowed; visitors with assistance dogs or access needs should contact France Galop before buying.
Who goes, and what do first-timers get wrong?
The Arc draws owners, trainers and breeders from around the world, racing fans from across Europe, Parisians making a day of it, and corporate guests in the hospitality areas.
First-timers often book around an assumed date before France Galop confirms it; buy a Saturday ticket expecting to see the Arc, which is on Sunday; drive in and get stuck in traffic; and miss the Parade of Nations by arriving late. Confirm the date, take the free shuttle from Porte Maillot, and arrive early on Sunday.
