What is Salone del Mobile?
Salone del Mobile.Milano is the world's leading furniture and design fair. It was launched in Milan in 1961 as a way to promote Italian furniture exports, and it now anchors Milan Design Week every April, when the fair at Rho and hundreds of events across the city run side by side.
The 2026 edition, by the organiser's final press release, recorded 316,342 visits from 167 countries, with 1,900 brands from 32 countries exhibiting. International visitors made up 68% of trade visitors, and the fair drew 8,057 Italian students, 6,361 foreign students and 700 designers under 35 from 39 countries at SaloneSatellite.
What is new for 2027?
The 65th edition runs from Tuesday 13 to Sunday 18 April 2027 at Fiera Milano, Rho. The organiser has announced three headline changes:
- Salone Contract makes its debut: a new section for large-scale projects and professional procurement, with a masterplan by Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten of OMA, built around a forum, podiums, project spaces and business-meeting areas.
- Euroluce returns: the biennial lighting exhibition comes back, with a second Euroluce International Lighting Forum curated by Annalisa Rosso, in the arena Sou Fujimoto designed for 2025.
- Salone Raritas returns: the second edition of the section for unique and high-end craft pieces, with India Mahdavi announced among the participants.
In the city, Fuorisalone 2027 has chosen the theme Design In Relation. The full exhibitor list and talks programme had not been published when this guide was checked.

How is the fair organised?
The core of the fair is four exhibitions: the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, Workplace3.0 for offices, and S.Project for interiors. Around them sit Euroluce for lighting, the new Salone Contract, Salone Raritas, and SaloneSatellite, where designers under 35 meet manufacturers.
The fair and the city are two different things. Fuorisalone, the city programme, runs from 12 to 18 April 2027, one day longer than the fair, with brand installations, showrooms and exhibitions across districts such as Brera. Together they make up Milan Design Week. Many city events are free, some need registration, and each sets its own rules, so check them individually.
The fair itself is mainly a trade event, with different visitor categories admitted on different days.
When is it, and what are the hours?
| Date | Hours | Who can enter |
|---|---|---|
| Tue 13 to Thu 15 April | 09:30 to 18:30 | Trade visitors |
| Fri 16 April | 09:30 to 18:30 | Trade visitors, suppliers and manufacturers, students |
| Sat 17 and Sun 18 April | 09:30 to 18:30 | All of the above plus the general public |
The visitor information gives the same hours, 09:30 to 18:30, for trade visitors, the public and students; press can enter from 08:30. Talks and city events keep their own times.
Where is it held?
At Fiera Milano, Strada Statale del Sempione 28, Rho, on the north-west edge of Milan. This is the large exhibition centre outside the city, not the older Fieramilanocity site near the centre. The Rho Fiera metro stop connects to the East Gate (Porta Est) by an accessible covered walkway, so most visitors arrive by train.
How do tickets work?
Tickets are sold through the organiser's admissions page, where you register and choose your visitor category. The page says plainly that "the 2027 rates are not yet available".
In 2026 there were four kinds of ticket: a six-day trade pass, a three-day pass for suppliers and manufacturers, a two-day general public ticket for the weekend, and a one-day student ticket. Expect a similar structure, but wait for the 2027 terms before booking. Architects, designers, retailers, distributors, importers and exporters, facility managers, contractors, interior decorators and lighting designers count as trade visitors; if you are unsure of your category, the organiser asks you to email tickets@salonemilano.it.
Most Fuorisalone events in the city do not need a fair ticket; check each one's requirements.
How do I get there and get around?
The organiser's travel page recommends public transport:
- Metro: the M1 red line to Rho-Fiera, the last stop; check the train's destination, as not every M1 goes there. An ordinary Mi1–Mi3 ticket costs €2.20.
- Suburban rail: lines S5, S6 and S11 stop at Rho-Fiera.
- From Malpensa: the Malpensa Express to Cadorna, then the M1 to Rho-Fiera.
- From Linate: the M4 to San Babila, then the M1 to Rho-Fiera.
Milan's transport authority, ATM, sells 24-hour tickets for €7.60 and three-day tickets for €15.50, useful if you are splitting days between the fair and the city. Inside the fairground, the free Circolare Fiera shuttle bus links all the entrance gates. In 2026 the organiser also ran a free, bookable shuttle from Malpensa; 2027 details have not been announced.

Where can I park?
Fiera Milano has about 10,000 parking spaces, including 3,000 in two multistorey car parks, with the largest area near the West Gate (Porta Ovest). Cars currently pay €14.50 for up to four hours or €20 for the day. All the outdoor car parks have spaces for disabled drivers; P4 is closest to the East Gate and P3 to the South Gate. Given the crowds, the metro is usually quicker.
What can I bring, and what should I wear?
There is a cloakroom at every reception area. The organiser has not published a bag size limit or a list of banned items, and there is no dress code. It does ban unauthorised advertising and handing out promotional material inside the halls. Practical advice, not an official rule: the halls are vast and you will walk for hours, so wear comfortable shoes and plan which pavilions you want to see before you arrive.
Children, service animals and accessibility
Because this is a commercial event, children under 10 are not normally admitted. On the public days, children aged 0 to 9 enter free if a parent signs a release form at reception, and children aged 10 to 13 pay a reduced ticket bought only at the fair. From 14, children count as students and can visit from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 April.
Pets are not allowed; guide dogs for blind people are admitted. The organiser's accessibility page offers free entry for disabled visitors, and for a carer where support is needed, on showing documentation. Manual wheelchairs and electric scooters can be hired, best booked ahead, and the metro station has lifts. Exhibitors manage their own stands, so an accessibility pass does not guarantee priority everywhere.
Who goes, and what do first-timers get wrong?
On weekdays the halls belong to the trade: architects, designers, retailers, contractors and buyers from around the world. Students arrive from Friday, and the weekend brings the general public. In the evenings, the city fills up for Fuorisalone.
First-timers often get the days wrong, turning up on a weekday with a public ticket. They mix up the fair at Rho with the events in town, which start a day earlier; they take an M1 train that does not go to Rho-Fiera; and they try to see everything in one day. Check your category, pick the pavilions you care about, and leave an evening or two for the city.

Salone del Mobile: admissions and ticketsWhere should you stay for Milan Design Week?
